The Fundación Smithsonian de Panamá is a volunteer group, created in 1996, whose members are Panamanian or local corporate leaders and accomplished individuals who bring broad experience, commitment and diverse backgrounds to the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI), and who profoundly influence the impact of STRI in Panama. The Board of Directors of the Fundación is highly qualified to comment on public perceptions, external relations, and business operations. The Board serves STRI in three main areas: Advising the Director, Outreach and Advocacy on behalf of STRI, and developing new resources—financial and otherwise—that contribute to advancing STRI’s mission. The Board of Directors serves an important role as advocate and ambassador for STRI in Panama and around the world. Members are encouraged to support STRI and the goals of its strategic plan.
