Scientists from five countries from Latin America joined in a publication on a strategy for the conservation of the Humpback Whale in Southeast Pacific. The group of researchers, led by Lilián Flórez-González includes STRI's Héctor M.Guzmán.

The book Estrategia para la conservación de la ballena jorobada del Pacífico Sudeste. Lineamientos para un plan de acción regional e iniciativas nacionales aims to improve the efficiency of conservation measurements already adopted as well as to implement new policies. With the immediate implementation of this strategy, the Southeast Pacific Humpback Whale population is expected to increase in a significant proportion in the next 20 years.
