Environmental Decision-makers Courses

In 2004 and 2005, STRI sponsored a series of Courses for Environmental Decision-Makers in Panama designed to provide training for high-level political appointees, community leaders, businesspeople, and journalists. The courses had a strong focus on Panama, and included separate modules on "Forest and Watershed Issues" and "Marine and Coastal Issues". The courses were free of charge for decision-makers and are designed to foster problem-solving skills and an enhanced appreciation of wise environmental stewardship. Efforts are ongoing to continue these courses in the future, subject to available funding.

In Brazil, the Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project, a joint effort of STRI and the National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA), also sponsors a series of conservation-related courses for environmental decision-makers in Latin America (more information).
