ACP- Panama Canal Authority

General information:

If you plan to do research in Gamboa Pipeline or Old Gamboa Road, check with the Visitor Services Office (VSO), who will provide you with a letter to access these specific areas. You also require an ANAM permit. Contact STRI-ANAMpermits@si.edu

Please take note that both permits are necessary to access the areas and/or to enter into de Soberania Park through these roads to do research and collection.

  1. If you need to apply, be sure to do it two (2) months in advance of your expected arrival. ANAM permit is required, please contact STRI-ANAMpermits@si.edu
  2. It is a host country requirement to provide a copy of any publication or reproduction including an abstract in Spanish, after completion of your study.
  3. Proper acknowledgments should be made in the publication to authorities facilitating the research.
  4. If any collected material turns out to belong to a taxon new to science, you should deposit a reasonable amount in STRI or in any other scientific center or proper national authority.
  5. Please, check STRI’s fee schedule if you should have any questions about fees
  6. Failure to comply with these regulations will adversely affect future authorization and research permits or collections to be exported by you and/or your colleagues
  7. The submission of the permit application does not imply that your project will be approved.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUBMIT

  • Protocol of the research:

The Protocol of investigation should be in Spanish. Your description should not be too technical. Be explicit about any possible environmental impact. Minimum 4 or 5 pages. Report format must include the following:

  1. Title of Research Project
  2. General objective
  3. Duration of the project
  4. Justification
  5. Methodology
  6. Place or area where the study will take place
  7. Describe area and send a map attached to this application. Mandatory
  8. Itinerary/working schedule – dates and sites to be visited
  9. Samples to be collected - scientific and common names
  10. Describe any field marks and equipment that will be placed in the field and specify when they will be situated and removed.
  11. Principal Investigator’s name
  12. Research assistant/s name/s
  13. Resume / of each participant
  14. Nationality/ies
  15. Passport number/s and attach copy of passport/s of each participant.
  16. STRI sponsor/advisor
  17. Any other information you may consider relevant to the project.
