Research Interests

Animal behavior, sexual selection, cryptic female choice.

Current Research

My current research centers on phenomea related to sexual selection, especially sexual selection by cryptic female choice. Current and planned projects include differences in the patterns of behavior of genitalia during copulation in congeneric species and in different conspecific populations of sepsid flies, how to distinguish coerced from
induced copulations, mating systems in sepsid flies, and events during copulation that affect sperm precedence in a spider.

Other current projects include manipulation of host web construction behavior by ichneumonid wasps that parasitize orb-weaving spiders, the allometry of the internal sheath that functions to receive the horns of opponents during battles in a horned weevil, stimuli affecting the decisions made by male and female medflies during courtship and the effects of inadvertant selection during mass rearing on courtship behavior, and internal maps of orb webs during web construction in an orb-weaving spider.
