The Galeta Point Marine Laboratory is located on the Caribbean entrance of the Panama Canal and on the outskirts of the port city of Colon. Since 1964, research is done on tropical coastal and marine ecosystems - coral reefs, sea grass beds, mangrove forests and wetlands, as well as on the hundreds of creatures that enhabit them. In 1973 the physical monitoring of the Caribbean was started. The Educational Program started in 2000, and the teacher trainning program in 2006. It is the purpose of Galeta to build bridges between the STRI Research and the panamanian classrooms.
