I graduated from the Chinese Academy of Sciences with a PhD in Soil Science and am now a scientist in the Applied Soil Biochemistry Laboratory in the Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In Panama, I am investigating phosphorus fractionation and microbial potassium in the soils in lowland and montane tropical forests. In particular, I am interested in how chemical forms of phosphorus vary among natural ecosystems, and the role of soil properties in regulating chemical forms of phosphorus in strongly weathered soils. There are very few studies of potassium contained within the soil microbial biomass, but this has important implications for estimating potassium bioavailability in tropical forests.
